Applying for a council home

In Dudley, as in other parts of the country, the demand for council housing is far higher than there are properties available.

Before applying to join the housing register for council housing please read the information below to decide if this is the right service for you.

Who can apply for housing?

Our housing register is open to people who have continuously lived and/or worked in the Dudley Borough for at least the last two years except for:

• People who are not eligible for social housing due to their immigration status
• People we exclude because of serious anti-social behaviour and/or breaches of tenancy conditions with any landlord
• People who have been excluded from the housing register for a period of time by our Fraud Team

Applications for a transfer to an alternative home will not normally be accepted from any Dudley Council Tenant/s within two years of the tenancy start date.

Who will get priority for housing?

We use a banding scheme to prioritise applications for housing. There are currently 5 bands which represent different levels of need. Band 1 is the highest priority and Band 5 is the lowest priority.

Your housing register application will be assessed on your individual circumstances and you will be placed in one of the five bands.
